New Wynnum Business Member BABI has just launch the Get Set for Work Program. Here are some details from BABI on the new program…

BABI Youth and Family Service has serviced the Wynnum/Manly community since 1983. Over the past 12 months BABI Youth and Family Service has also been delivering the Get Set for Work Program.

The program comes under the umbrella of Skilling Queenslanders for Work – funded by the Queensland Government.  BABI has been tasked with recruiting 15-19 year olds who are currently not engaged in work, school or further education.  We then provide an opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification, integrating foundation skills, learner support, career advice and job preparation skills.

The objective is to transition young people into work, further training or back into education. So far we have had 73 young people come through the program. 66 % have completed their qualification, 68% have found jobs, went into further training or went back to school.

Joan Pease MP at graduationAt BABI it has always amazed and inspired us to see the level of support offered by our local Wynnum Manly community.  Many businesses, large and small, have put their hands up to take on a young person for work experience and in several cases this has resulted in employment.  The benefits of work experience are considerable and give a young person a chance to try out their new skills in a supported space.

If you have to capacity and desire to take on a work experience placement we would love to hear from you.  Work experience is only for a couple of days and comes at no financial cost to the business. Please note that insurance is covered by Designer Life, our RTO partner.  Call Catriona or Gradi on 07 3393 4176.
